Graduate College Events! - Updated

Graduate Student Showcase Registration Extended
The Graduate College has extended the registration period for the Graduate Student Showcase by a week. Registration will now close on March 17 at midnight.

This year, we are offering separate in-person and virtual events. The virtual event is restricted to students enrolled in an online-only graduate program. All other students will participate in the live event in the Student Union. The same registration process is used for both events and is a two-step process. Register today to indicate your interest in participating! No actual poster submissions are requested at this time.

Graduate Assistant (GA) Separations

As part of the GA Health Insurance Process Improvement Project and FY22 GA health insurance reconciliation, the Controller's Office identified several GAs whose health insurance had not been terminated, due to early separations of GAs that were not communicated to the Graduate College. This resulted in continued charges for health insurance which was absorbed by the university. Going forward, departments will be responsible for health insurance charges if the Graduate College is not informed of the early separation.

All separations must comply with
GA policy 7170. Read more about what is required for an early separation on our Intranet Site. Examples of when the submission of an Employee Separation Form is required:
  • The student voluntarily resigns before their contract ends.
  • The student graduates before their contract ends.
  • The student is not meeting expectations or is administratively withdrawn from the program before their contract ends.
An Employee Separation Form is not required if the GA contract is ending as planned. The Graduate College will contact the departments to determine if your GA will be rehired after their current end date. It is important that you respond to these emails by the deadlines. If no response is received by the deadline, the GA will be removed from the health insurance plan on the last day of the month when the GA position ends (if the GA position ends 5/6, insurance will term 5/31). Please contact Baily Hazzard at bailyhazzard@boisestate.edu if you have any questions.

Graduate Assistant (GA) STI Testing Campaign

April is sexually transmitted infection (STI) awareness month, and BroncoFit is encouraging sexually active students to #GetYourselfTestedPlease send this important health information to your students.

Boise State GAs with university-paid health insurance can receive no-cost STI testing at University Health Services (UHS). For the week of April 10-14, there will be walk-in testing for graduate assistants Mon-Fri from noon - 4 p.m. Students who get tested that week will be entered to win prizes totaling over $350, including a JBL Bluetooth speaker!

UHS is located on the second floor of the Norco Building (near the Rec Center). All students are advised to bring their insurance cards; male students should not urinate within an hour before testing.

Are you working with a graduate student completing a project or portfolio? Do they need help in navigating the process from writing to compiling and organization to completion?

The Graduate Student Success Center is excited to announce No Thesis? No Problem!, a new GradSkills workshop designed for students completing projects, portfolios and capstones as their culminating activity. This workshop will show students effective tools for writing introductions, selecting pieces for portfolios, and writing project proposals and detailed summaries, to name a few. This is a great opportunity for your students to get their project started, make significant progress, or put the finishing touches on their work before graduation.
